So this is freelance life...

After working in PR agencies for the best part of 20 years, I decided to hang up my agency hat and go it alone. This was no easy decision, as I imagine it isn't for anyone. It took a lot of courage to leave my exciting and varied job working with big brands where I could be creative and brave with ideas and campaigns, but I knew it was the right thing for me.

I wanted to have the freedom to choose who I worked with and what on and thought that going freelance would also give me a rebalance time wise.

I was fortunate enough to set up two clients before I actually finished and also was able to complete a big content production project the first month. So that set me off to a good start. Since then, my two original clients are still with me (thanks Anya and Rumpus!) and I've worked on projects for others and there's all sorts in the pipeline.

How have I found freelance life so far?!

Truthfully quite an adjustment, nobody wants to chat to me constantly on Teams, my emails are a million times quieter, quite a shock! Also, when you actually just have time to do what you need to do and not manage big teams of other people, there's soooo much you can achieve!

I've been lucky in that I've worked in client offices twice a week so I've not had that sudden shock I think a lot of freelancers find when they've gone from a big bustling agency environment to working on their own. Plus I've got Dolly the dog of course to keep me company! I think that first month I walked her little legs off, we were doing about 15k steps a day as I found so much time on my hands.

With the extra time I've found I'm more creative, I rediscovered my love of writing and I'm really enjoying drafting press releases, expert opinions for interiors brands and coming up with ideas for current clients and potential new ones.

There's no looking back for me now, I would love to connect with other freelancers, agencies that use freelancers or small brands who are looking to get their name out there. I can help with everything from media relations and press release writing to strategy, new business support and ideas generation.

Going freelance has really broadened my work life and reminded me why I love PR. My mentality has switched from wanting to work on the best (aka biggest) brands to simply working with the best people who I really want to do a great job for.
